Can you believe it?
Okay-so you can. But I cant!
I have a question for all the mamas and the papas out there. What should an 8 month old be eating? Apparently I am behind the times because other babies Ellie's age are eating finger foods, puffs, pieces of fruit, etc. Most days it is a struggle for me to even feed her a jar of baby food 3 times per day. Not because she doesnt like it, but because we get busy/I forget/I'm a bad mom : ) Do I need to be feeding her finger foods so she can practice feeding herself?
Also- because who doesnt love a good chandelier makeover...

when Dawson was 8 months old he was eating 3 meals a day of 4-5oz, and i was also offering him puffs, cheerios, wagon wheels, yogurt melts, mum mums and small pieces of fruit, cooked veggies and bread. :)
It all depends on how much teeth she has too tho!
Hope that helps!
My pediatrician told me to start finger foods around 7 months. She recommended anything I could easily smush between my fingers -- diced bananas, avocados, baked sweet potatoes, steamed or baked apples, ripe melons, etc. Also the puffs because they essentially dissolve easily in their mouth. Good Luck!
Mine is 8.5 months and I only just recently started giving her finger foods. She's still learning to pick things up. She LOVES cheese so I usually feed her little cubes as a snack. She can feed herself little bits of chicken. The puffs are kind of big so I break them in half and she can pick those up. I get really nervous about her choking so I probably don't give her as many finger foods as I could. My pediatrician said even at this age breastmilk/formula is still all they REALLY need. Any food they get now is just practice for eating solids.
Will was eating a lot of "finger" foods but he also had about 12 teeth! My nephew is 1 and he only has 4 teeth so he still pretty much only eats baby food or very soft table food like cooked carrots.
All babies are different :)
I just changed Caleb's eating routine a bit to make sure he was getting enough formula. However, we do 3 baby food meals a day, and after each meal I give him puffs/yogurt melts/real fruit pieces etc to feed himself. I also sometimes feed him real veggies that I make for dinner at night just mashed up instead of baby food. I have also given him real chicken just cut really tiny. He has NO teeth at all, and he still does really well with gumming his food.
Layton is the same age as Ellie and has NO TEETH YET!! My oldest cut teeth at 6 mths. My hubby asked her tonight if she was going to be bald headed and toothless forever! Anywho, I have been giving her very small pieces of food for about a month. She eates puffs, yogurt melts and cheerios all the time. She very rarely has baby food. We just mash up whatever we are having and give her some. She like it all! For example, tonight she had some small pieces of macaroni and yogurt.
I went back to my blog archives, I can't recall what Mason ate at 8 months but I did document his favorite food at about 9 months so I am sure it was about the same give or take a few things. I do remember it was constantly changing. Here is the link. http://www.lackey.me/2009_04_01_archive.html
I would try sweet potatoes, cooked (or canned) carrots, bread..anything she can gum. Oh and watermelon season is on it's way!! Remember how much Mason loved watermelons?? :)
I give Kaidence puffs, mummums, biter biscuits, & yogurt melts for snacks. She drink a 6oz bottle every 2-3 hours {yes, she is a PIG!!!} AND, she eats atleast 2 sometimes 3 jars of baby food.
I have recently started giving her whole kernel corn, ittybitty tiny shreds of chicken, and other small "real food" so she can learn to feed herself!
I have the same questions about what to feed my almost 8 month old. I just bought him mum-mums for the first time. He's been eating a snack of some kind of fruit between lunch and dinner. Your chandalier shades, are AMAZING!
Me likey the sea grass covers! Super cute!

Brayden has been eating puffs, mum mums, yogurt melts, cereal with fruit or veggie 3 times per day, plus formula throughout. It does depend on the teeth! :)
Our daughter is 9 months old and she just eats breastmilk and stage 2 foods. Her 9 month wellness check is next Friday and I am sure she will start with finger foods after that appointment.
She was also exclusive breastmilk until 6 months, and then we started to introduce rice/food.
Don't worry about other babies...just do what is right with you and Ellie.
As I always say, "no bride ever walked down the aisle still _____" in your case it would be "no bride ever walked down the aisle still eating baby food :)
Awww I LOVE your lamp shades Katie! You are so creative! LOVE the jute!
Ok - I have a camera strap from Priddy too!! LOVE It!!!

My kids are 8 and 3 and I can't remember at all when they started eating finger foods. I think when you notice them start to really pick things up one at a time, cause if not they would just be shoveling puffs in their mouth at an alarming rate. There is plenty of time for that later in life with M&M's. I love the shades. I love the mix of metal and rough jute and/or burlap. I love Priddy's stuff, makes me want a DSLR even more than I already do! Basically, I love everything about this post. Good job! :)
Came over from Just a Girl & I love love love those jute covered shades!! Super job! :)
Blessings,
Stacey
Those shades are fabulous!!!
Please come teach me to be creative in my house. That is all. LOVE the chandelier shades...I mean, really?! How do you think of these things??
Just go with whatever you Ped tells you. They all develop differently. I think Isabella was snacking on finger foods by then so I think it's ok if you start :) And love the camera strap and light make-over...so cute! Very crafty :)
Are you kidding me? That lamp is AMAZING. I love it. Send it my way will ya?
I can't give any tips on the food, as I can hardly remember what my little one ate at that age-- she's only two but my mind is at a blank.
I do not remember the name but I got a book as a baby shower gift and it gave ideas of what you should start with and then month by month progressed them into other foods. You could google it.
Pears, cheese, mandarin oranges....very soft foods.
Now that worked perfectly for my 3 boys but not my girl. SHE LOVED nursing and waned nothing to do with food. She did not take a bite of food until after she was a year old. She is 3 now and she would still love to nurse rather than eat feed--we stopped a long time ago but she remembers.

My girls both had horrible feeding issues because of severe reflux. However, they really didn't start eating three meals a day until sometime after their first birthday. I did give them puffs and other finger foods starting at around 9 months. We didn't even start solids until 7-8 months. A good friend shared something with me that made me relax about it all. She said that she was never in a hurry about food with her kids because she felt like they have the rest of their lives to eat things so why rush it when they are little and it is a pain for you.
