A Break

Yesterday I had a much-needed break from my usual responsibilities. Josh arrived home from his 4-day at midnight the night before and we got to chat a little before going to bed. The next morning we both knew we only had 24 hours to spend together so we needed to make the best of it.

We had to have One of Those Talks on the way to Ellie Kate’s school about how my love tank was running on empty and that I needed some time and resources to feel better about myself. After 4 straight days of single-parenting my appearance (and personal hygiene) had gone to bits and I was just feeling very pregnant, fat, and ugly.

So after we dropped Ellie Kate off at MDO, Josh surprised me with a trip to Krispy Kreme!

We had a quick breakfast and then decided to hit the mall so I could buy a couple of new maternity shirts. I don’t want to buy new clothes with only 7.5 weeks left, but I’m just so sick of wearing the same things. We went to Motherhood Maternity and I bought these cuties:

Later in the day, my friend Samantha invited me to come hear her husband play at a local restaurant. I wasn’t going to go at first, because I knew that Josh and I only had this one night together…but after we talked we decided it was just what I needed. I needed a reason to dress up (not in yoga pants) and spend a kid-free evening with friends.

So I left Josh to take care of dinner, bath, and bedtime and I headed out the door!

I was so excited to actually fix my hair, put on eyeliner, and even (gasp!) heels. I realize that some moms do these things every day, but call me when your husband is out of town for 4 days in a row every week and the only person you hang out with needs you to wipe poop off their tiny butt twice a day and then we can talk ; )

Tommy was playing at the cutest country restaurant that is a local favorite. All the girls ordered Arnold Palmers (half lemonade and half sweet tea) and they came in these mason jars. I love living in the south!

Here’s Tommy as he’s about to take his turn in the competition. He did great, but was outshined by a girl that i swear to cake sounded exactly like Adele. Who can top that?!

We didn’t stay out too late but I came home and crashed. Josh was up bright and early this morning to go fly the friendly skies again, this time for a dayline. He was supposed to be home by midnight again tonight, but the flights don’t look good and it looks like we wont see him again until tomorrow sometime. Oh, the joys of the airlines :)
